30 Minutes for Free

A lot students have asked for a way to “test” out a tutor before entering a paid session that requires a credit card. On the flip side, many tutors have asked for a way to offer a “promotional” rate to new students. As a result, we decided to create a program whereby all students will receive 30 minutes of tutoring for free with participating tutors.

For students, this is a great way for you to test the waters with various tutors and find the best fit. And since a credit card is not required during this promotion, it is even easier to get help. The details of the promotion are as follows:

  • you can use the minutes on one 30 minute session, two 15 minute sessions, three 10 minute sessions, 5 6 minute sessions (I think you get the point!)
  • upon registration, a credit for 30 minutes will appear on your dashboard page
  • find a participating tutor by looking for “first 30 minutes are free” next to their name
  • a credit card is not required when using your free minutes to initiate a session with a participating tutor
  • after every session the dashboard page will show your remaining free minutes

For tutors, participation in the promotion has several benefits:

  1. you will be able to attract students without having to lower your “advertised” rate and get into a “price war” with other tutors
  2. students will feel more comfortable initiating a session with you knowing that their first time can be free
  3. participating in the program will lead to promotional sessions, which will lead to feedback, which will boost your ranking in search results, which in turn will lead to more paid sessions!

The details of the promotion for tutors are as follows:

  • this is a purely voluntary promotion and you can opt-in or -out at any point in time. By default all tutors are opted-out of the promotion so if you would like to participate you must pro-actively opt-in
  • upon “upgrading” to tutor status, you will see a short description of the promotion on the tutor page. You can opt-in or opt-out by clicking the checkbox
  • the text “first 30 minutes are free” will appear in search results and on your profile page
  • when a student initiates a session you will receive an alert letting you know if the session will be a paid or promotional session (i.e., the student is using his or her free minutes)
  • even if you are participating in the promotion you are not obligated to accept promotional sessions - you are in control
