ziizoo tips: managing “presence”
January 15th, 2008 by Robert EinspruchThe “presence” indicator in the upper right-hand corner of every page lets you (and the rest of the world) know your status on the platform. We give you three easy options (more will be coming) for setting your presence.
- available: Use this setting if you can be readily reached via the Message Center or a session request. Students gravitate towards tutors whose presence is set to “available”; however, students also expect a prompt response from available tutors - so if you need to step away from your computer, use the next option - “away”.
- away: The “away” setting is the most underutilized of the three. Use this setting when you need to step away from your computer for a moment but want to stay logged in (the “away” status is factored into our search algorithm, though not as heavily as “available”). Setting your status to “away” helps manage expectations and lets students know that it will take 10 - 15 minutes before you can respond to their emails (students can not initiate a session unless your status is set to “available”).
- offline: This is the default option when you are not logged into the site. However, if you wish to log-in (perhaps to check your messages) but do not want to be disturbed, setting your status to “offline” will make you invisible on the site.
We manage your status automatically if you are in an active session. Other than that, you are in complete control of your presence on the site. Need more information? Check out Step 6 of the “How to ziizoo” section of our blog for a tutorial on setting presence.
