updates 05/02/07

Hello ziizoo community,

I would like to keep you updated on improvements and fixes we made to ziizoo today. We plan on doing this regularly, since we think it is only fair to you tutors and students that you are the first to know about any changes.

You might have noticed the “maintenance” screen throughout the day while we were updating the site. I understand that it is very annoying, but we had to make some very important updates. We will try to limit these maintenance downtimes to off-hours if possible.

Now to the good stuff:

  • Some users with certain email providers like AOL and Road Runner have not been receiving their account confirmation email. We have resolved this issue and all affected users should have received their confirmation email by now.
  • We have improved / fixed the search. It no longer returns tutors who are completely unrelated to the subject matter. With that said, we will be constantly enhancing the search. Also, by popular demand you can now find yourself in the search.
  • Issue with the hourly rate on the tutor profile being different from the search results has been resolved.
  • For security reasons we made changes to the usernames. Your username is now case insensitive, for example when you login. Chances are that you haven’t even noticed which was our intention.

Things to come:

  • We are in the process of updating the billing section. One of the changes will be the addition of PayPal as disbursement method for tutors. Many of you have also asked about PayPal as student payment methods, and we definitely plan on adding that as well in near future.
  • Some more exciting features I shouldn’t probably talk about

That’s all for now. If you are experiencing any trouble with any of the changes or the ziizoo site in general, please let us know. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Gregory

Question: is there a way to make the search bring online tutors to the top?

It seems if you are on ziizoo looking for a tutor, you probably want one NOW.

    Thanks!

I’m concerned about the tags in the social sciences, where it seems that subfields of history, psychology, economics, etc are all considered “related” to each other. While the broadly defined subjects are related in principle, I think that tutors in one specialized field are ill-equipped to teach other fields. As an economist, I would be useless as a tutor for a student in Asian history or in child psychology. This is particularly important as it impacts the search mechanism - a quick search for “economics” brings up 147 tutors, many of whom do not tutor in economics. If I were a student looking for a tutor, I would become frustrated very quickly at the need to open each individual profile to see if my subject was listed.

    Hi,

I went to add tags to my tutor page, and they all showed up, but when I hit the save button they all disappeared and do not show up on my page.

    Thanks.
